Please bear with me as a newbie who might be heading down the wrong path! I also have "lost" my Utilities folder -the folder is still there but the contents have been changed to "Java(4 items), Migration Assistant and Remote install (to MacBook Air)". I can't find the original contents with Spotlight. I am fairly sure that the problem started around November 17 2008. when I...

When I play an online game, flash game or game like world of warcraft, at random times my mac (MacBook) will freeze up, everything on it, the sound will start skipping, the mouse won't move and the screen is skipping. MacBook (10.5.5) screen displays properly (1280x800) until the icons begin to display on start-up and then it drops to a much lower resolution. When I switch to any other user the display is OK. When I switch back the resolution stays at 1280x800 until I move the cursor or something and then it drops again. I had a ViewSonic 37in LCD TV hooked up and had just watched...

The setting for that is in the CDs/DVDs preference pane in case you want to change it from prompting you all the time. And what you've explained is what is supposed to happen. "Open in Finder" opens the disc in the Finder. Choosing anything else will only make it accessible from whatever you've chosen if I'm not mistaken.
