I can't specifically address your problem. All I would say as an ex-Mozy user you really need to read the fine print vary carefully.

Came across a blog a few minutes after I posted my question.... Looks like MSO 2007 files can be specified in Mozy Mac with the following search string: kMDItemContentType == "org.openxmlformats.*" Found that content types can be read out with mdls in terminal.

SmartBackup looks like a good app to me however I haven't used it myself. http://freeridecoding.com/smartbackup/ If you want online backup, check out mozy.com, you get 2GB free space which you can use for more important files. I'm using the unlimited paid version myself and have 80GB stored online.
