Not correct as it's *NOT* some kind of BIOS. It runs like VirtualPC - only it doesn't have to emulate the processor. Rather, it uses the processor's virtualisation features, so processes are run natively at full speed. However most other devices are simulated. So you won't get full graphics, nor will you get a fullspeed HD (you'll use a disk image, just like VPC on your PPC...

Yes you are correct. You need an XP installation CD, and you'd run Parallels, and then install Windows XP within Parallels.

Thanks. I'll keep Virtual PC on my Powerbook and install the XP onto Parallel for the Macbook. Already have the trial key for Parallel, just need to 1) purchase the full key and 2) get Windows to install on it. I am correct in that it's a BIOS setup and I would purchase an XP license and install it onto the Parallel BIOS, right?

Parallels will only run on intel macs, and only "emulate" intel systems. VirtualPC emulates an intel system on a PowerPC system. Parallels will not work on your PowerBook. Parallels will run windows on top of OS X. Boot Camp, Apple's solution, allows you to install windows as if your mac was a PC. ...

They had worked with Microsoft (bundling OSs etc.) for a couple of years before that, MS needed a virtual machine solution (the PC version of VirtualPC) and MS probably paid a good price. I don't really think Connectix knew Apple would go intel anymore than anyone else outside of intel/Apple did. But I guess it's all for the better. :) ... Parallels has a really good...

So let me get this straight. In order to sync files between my MBP and a server I have to download some utility and then set it up to sync certain things on a schedule? You gotta be kidding me. Here's the situation, and I know this is common. I use a MBP, and that's all I use...no Mini, no tower, no external drives, no nuthin. I don't want to move my home folder, boot...

You are right about Parallels. I have one network device which can only be administered by a 'doze PC. I installed Parallels and XP. Performance is not bad and works just fine. ...

I'd also consider Parallels' virtualisation tool as a kind of parachute. Any application you depend on that only runs on linux or Windows, you'll be able to run in a virtual machine. Not talking games here, of course. I, too, would go for a console there. ;)

i just made the switch from boot camp to parallels. i use a windows-based proprietary software and need the flexibility of switching from windows to mac without rebooting constantly. i use a pen tablet extensively, not only for my graphic design work, but also for the majority of my navigating. a great deal of my workflow is : file management in osx and image processing...
