You don't install linux using fink. You _compile_ and install software. linux binaries won't run on Mac OS X, since they expect a different system, to put it plainly. You could, of course, buy Parallels Desktop - www.parallels.com - and install a linux distro in a virtual machine. Might not be the worst idea after all.

Yes. And no. It depends. For example, if what you want to do is write a paper, then it wouldn't matter much. If you want to play a game only available for Windows, then Mac OS X is not slower, it doesn't perform _at all_. d not get the "locked by firmware" message. I then set the level back to"High" and then restarted the VM. Again, no "locked by firmware" message. It appears that Parallels got out of sync somehow that changing the level corrected. Time will tell if this fixed the problem in the long run. ...

Parallels Workstation is a MacOS X application. To run Windows comfortably, you need 512 MB RAM. This means that PW requires this much plus additional RAM to cover its overhead. You also need RAM to run your other MacOS X tasks. Long story short, you need at least an additional 1GB RAM to handle PW.
