Yeah, use the Terminal: mv path/to/file_or_folder path/to/.file_or_folder Notice the change: there is a period before the filename. This makes it invisible to the Finder. If you really want to make it un-openable too, I can show you that, but it's not really needed.

Of course ... but why did they just start with Panther? exactly what I was looking for, thank you very much Actually 'open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder" works just fine. But while I'm wrecking my system, where can I look to find out my $PATH anyway? just trying to educate myself ... I had to fix my $MANPATH even though I don't know why it was broken...

Probably to protect people from wrecking their own system... When in doubt, try the shell (in fact this method turns up quite a few things) find / -name Finder BTW 'open Finder' won't work because I can practically guarantee you that "/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/" is not in your $PATH.

I'm actually working on that folder action, well working out the bug for that folder action. This script copies "MyNewFile2" to my backup volume "Backup"... tell application "Finder" copy file ((path to desktop folder as text) & "MyNewFile2") to disk "Backup" end tell I stopped working on the folder action, when i get bored, i might give it a go again.
