hi. so i burned about 4 movies of mine so that i could bring the copies to school and leave the originals at home for my family to view. i used mac the ripper first and then burned the video_ts folders using popcorn (which compressed the folders to fit onto a 4.7GB DVD-RW) without any errors or trouble. maybe it's important to say here that i used an external dvd-burner...

Hey There, I have the same problem as richard, which is that Roxio Popcorn 'unexpectedly quits' each time I drag/select a TS_VIDEO. However the advice to 'repair permissions' didn't work for me. It's the first time that I've used the combo since I loaded Tiger onto my computer. Could it be a security thing, that they can detect you're ripping disks? My second question...

Popcorn isn't a ripping program. If you want to copy a "protected" DVD, you must first rip it with MacTheRipper. Then just drag the VIDEO_TS folder that MTR created onto Popcorn's window and click the big red button. Popcorn is a great product. Been using it since it was release and I am absolutely pleasure with the results it produces. Yes, it 'recompresses' single layer discs, but what it does it gets rid of all the adverts and copyright scenes. It keeps the subtitles and you can choose which languages you want to keep.
