Hi all I've got a Powerbook G3, the first model with USB and firewire, the Pismo model. On my Quicksilver I can plug in my Panasonic PV-GS500 firewire video camera and it just works fine in iChat AV. However on this machine it says 'this computer does not support video conferencing'. If I install 10.3 instead, will it work then? I know it'd be slow, but it seems like it...

Any PowerPC mac (G3, G4, G5) can run applications in classic. If you need to run OS 9 natively, these docs will help you find a computer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25114 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86209 If you need OS 9 natively, a PowerMac G4 that supports it would be the best bet. If you just need classic, a G5 would run OS X...

Remember the problem I had a couple weeks ago with MAIL? Got that fixed. Now iPHOTO is doing the same thing. Here's what is so strange. Again, just like the problem I had with MAIL, if I log off and log back on (on the same computer) with a different user, iPHOTO launches without a glitch. When I try to launch (USER 1) it starts to launch, and disappears. I get the...

I wonder if any specific applications are the culprit... QuickSilver locks up a lot... And recently iCal has been acting heavy... But I'm not sure if that's related to heat... ...

I just bought a Giga-Designs 1.54GHz single G4 upgrade, they're $259 new, and the 1.4Ghz version can be had for $229. Very much worth it! Photoshop CS2 now runs great. Plus the upgrade can go with you if you decide to get a prettier G4 such as a Quicksilver, with the faster 133MHz bus. Sometimes the lower end 1.2GHz G4 upgrades go on sale for sub-$200 and even that would...

We just procured a lab of 30 new iMac 20" models, a new XServe, and a LaCie Biggest RAID box for backup, replacing our aging Graphite G4's running 10.3 and our Quicksilver Panther server. My plan for this coming year was to make life easier by switching to Netboot, and making our logins more seamless as well. ...

I've noticed over the past couple of months that a process called mds or mdimport will run my cpu at 100% for days if I don't quit it. I think I;ve narrowed it down to being owned by Spolight. When it's running I can't eject my iPod, I assume since it's trying to catalog it, and moving files and folders under the private category doesn't seem to work. I've done all I can think...
