VNC Mac --> Win

You definitely can't do it with RDC, but with VNC there is a way to disable input on the client (meaning your keyboard & mouse movements aren't sent to the server) which is effectively an observe mode. I know the Windows clients have a checkbox to disable the input but I'm not sure off hand which (if any) of the OS X clients support it... but it doesn't depend on the server...

Microsoft Remote Desktop

RDC works very fine indeed. I'm using it all the time, as I need the 17" TFT for my Mac. ;-) Faster than using VNC, although VNC of course is cross-platform, which makes it better for some cases (for example if you have a Mac, a linux and a Windows box and want to be able to control all of them from any of them).

VNC allows you to access desktops remotely. It works on Windows, MacOS and Unix. I think pretty much every combination is possible, e.g. accessing Unix from Windows or Windows from Mac.
