You are welcome. Actually, the LaCie backup software for OS X is SilverKeeper. Silverlining is for older OSs. I have heard good things about it, but have not used it because I do so much cloning and don't add many files to my iBook.

Thanks folks, thats exactly the kind of stuff I was after. I've looked into Retrospect and it sounds like a great package - and cost effective too (of course anything that prevents data loss is cost effective). Sorry... was in a hurry. Here is what I did: a) Did a full backup of my drive using Retrospect b) Ran disk utility to fix disk permissions c) applied any updates (I had a few outstanding) via software update panel d) Repeated Step B again e) Did the "Upgrade" of Panther. All went well.

Yep, can confirm that (would have needed it yesterday and had to resort to a Panther installation I had on an external backup). Also: Retrospect Express 6.0 also doesn't work for me. Right now, I have to backup by hand. :/

Or just do the overnight back up thing and schedule it too with Retrospect to a tape drive or similar back up. You could set it to copy to a firewire hard drive, or whatever you wanted. ...
