A Backup and AntiVirus strategy

There are no viruses per se that affect OSX, but you can still catch an MS Office "macro virus" (They're platform independent), and you can still pass on infected files to your wintel friends (Sort of like Typhoid Mary). Norton Antivirus 9 intercepts/kills both kinds. For backup, I use Retrospect (since I have three computers and six volumes to do at once), and external...

Arafats mysterious ailment

I think pds has stated things very eloquently already, so I'll only add a few notes of my own. I was, of course, putting forward an alternative angle to counter what you had posted.

Recover playlists

Wherever you put them when you backed up -- it depends on what you did to backup those playlists. Did you use Apple's Backup software, or some 3rd party software like Retrospect? Or, did you manually back them up by coping the playlists to somewhere else? Long story short, if you haven't made a backup, then there's no backup to recover them from. OS X doesn't back up...

I'm currently using Retrospect Express, as that came with my Maxtor drive (see sig.). Previously I used SilverKeeper, as that's a really good (and free!) option. I also used 'ditto' (command line tool) before that.

Looking 4 Shareware to remove Spyware

Yea, Spyware is doubtful. It would be a first if you found it. :) After the 10.3.5 upgrade, my machine crapped it's pants. (wonderful word picture). Anyhow, prior to this upgrade, the machine was running slower and slower and slower. Well, I always run nightly Retrospect updates of my machine, so I just did a format/restore of my previous nights backup. Machine RUNS like...

Recovering data from iDisk

Okay, here's the situation. I've deleted a file. Unfortunately, I've overwritten the file with a new version, so it's not in the trash can. Fortunately, I back up my system daily (actually twice daily, but who's counting?). Unfortunately, said file is on my iDisk, which is not explicitly backed up (Retrospect is the backup software, if that makes a difference). Fortunately,...
