How to Delete OS 10.2

Cheryl, I KNOW he can boot into OS 9.2 because he always does so (never runs OS X at all.) Since I use Retrospect, even if only certain files are backed up, it still scans through all 130,000 files to figure out which ones to back up. Given he doesn't ever want to run OS X (he's 85 years old and is happy with OS 9), I want to figure out a way to delete the OS X operating...

How to Delete OS 10.2

My dad recently purchased an eMac with a 17" monitor to replace his OLD Mac Quadra. He wanted faster performance but still likes OS 9.2. We use Retrospect to back up his eMac and when we do a backup, Retrospect must scan almost 130,000 files before the backup starts. I'm sure most of these files are from OS 10. ...

Superdrive not recognizing DVD-R's

My wife's G4 (867-ish mHz Quicksilver, DVR-103, 10.2.6) seems to have stopped recognizing DVR disks. She rarely uses them - I just went to back up her machine yesterday (it's been a few months) and first Retrospect Express reported some kind of catalog error when I inserted the last DVD-RW from the previous backup. I tried recreating the catalog, but it took all of a couple of...

Why won't Backup run when it's supposed to?

Weird airport problem

I got it working by setting up the connection manually on the xp box. I have an ftp server set up on it to use Dantz Retrospect to back up my home dir. I just thought it was weird that the airport would be sending out that subnet. ...

Dvd-ram|-r(/w)|+r(w)

Stay away from DVD-RAM. It's not that fast, it doesn't hold that much data, and it's hard to find media. I had a DVD-RAM in my g4/450, ofcourse there are like 4 different sizes, 2.6G, 5.2G (double sided 2.6G disk), 4.7G, and 9.4G (double sided 4.7G). To add to that, some media is in a plastic cartridge, others are a normal disk. The DVD-RAM that came with my sawtooth only...

Home Directory on external drive confuses Photoshop Elements

I followed the instructions from this thread to move my home directory to a external hard drive. (Carefully making sure the external drive is set to not ignore permissions, and copying/verifying files/permissions using Retrospect.) Everything seems to be working except Photoshop Elements 2.0 (including new updates) keeps poping up an alert saying it can not write to a...

Some Apps Won't Launch

and it could very well be related to 10.2.8.crappo. Until we get a really advanced filing system that could truly undo itself to a recent date, or everyone runs Retrospect religiously, then we'll just have to accept that when the OS truly borks itself up, you reinstall. ...
