I really hope that Dashboard will have better international support than Sherlock ever had - and soon. It seems much more attractive to both users and developers alike, and I even guess that _that_ was some of the thought behind it (i.e. Sherlock's non-success). After all: It's up to you. Everyone's a webdesigner, and Dashboard widgets are just little Javascript apps...

ary app. There are now at least three places to go for dictionary services. I presume the Dashboard widget simply accesses the Dictionary app, which is fine, but Sherlock really needs to die. Sherlock is just Dashboard with tabs. Let it go. ...

e value Tiger really seems to be. That and it's a few more headaches in the meantime before the 10.4.1 update is live. Those screen widgets are nothing more than Sherlock with a cutesy interface and a ton of wasted virtual memory. And I love Sherlock! ...

Yes it did, before it was turned into a content delivery system (think MacOS 8.5 through 9.2). The only problem was that it was setup to index the drive on command or at midnight. Seeing as most people didn't let their machines run that long, most people didn't even know the 'feature' existed. My machine would index for 5+ hours every day (PowerMac 8600, 20GB total space), so...

Ahh... just for the record, Sherlock was/is just an application, it does not create an index of the disk content! Let your Mac run the night over, and it should be done - unless you have 500+Gb of data... You're gonna be happy it's indexed, though. When it's done, try open Address Book, select a person/company and choose 'Spotligt ' from the 'gear' menu... :-)

It can be disabled quite easily. Go to System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy, and designate folders or disks that you don't want to get indexed. :D

Ohh I see. I didn't realize it loaded channels from the internet. It's like a small MacUpdate just for Sherlock. ;)
