I have run Brickhouse and opened all the ports. It still does not work. I ahve no problem accessing the mail (through mail.app) on a dialup connection though. Funny that Outlook Express should work through the proxy but mail.app does not. Even Sherlock and the Software updater don;t work!!!

nor just a simple empty trash. The trash itself does not seem to be a "normal" directory in the file system. I cannot find the directory manually and Sherlock will not find items in the trash. ...

X.I is very fast...It launched a not yet released version of IE in 2 seconds, and sherlock in less than a full bounce in the dock. Of course I think that was on a one of the new 800 dual G4's with RAM to the moon, but hey...you get the idea. ...

in sherlock, you go to 'new channel' and setup your new search site (name, icon, etc...), then you dump your google plugin into the folder you've just made in users/yourname/library/internet search sites ... simple as that. by the way, you can use any x icon for a channel by dragging it into the icon window when editing ... :)

I'd just like to point out that I just used the 'click first letter of a file name' the other day in Icon View in OS X, and it worked fine. I can't imagine what the difference would be. I can tell you that I index my home file regularly through Sherlock... Have you tried it with the toolbar both visible and hidden? I alsways have mine visible for single window mode.

You could always try going into your Library/Preferences directory and throwing out the com.apple.Sherlock.plist file. Trashing prefs was a good fix-all in OS 9, so maybe it will still work with Sherlock.
