thnx. So im assuming that apple will one day take care of sherlock. i hope. Thank you for the info on the moniter control back in the dock. Basically it was for controling where the disks show up on the desktop and where you can change background images etc. i dont seem to have a desktop control panel. do you happen to know where it is? thanx

After some work in sherlock I FOUND the receipt folder and installed the newer versions of OS X and the problem was fixed. Unfortunately this was the not the end if my problems. ...

Huh, Apple must have put some really strange recursive search algorithms into Sherlock.

I believe it does.. On my PowerBook Duo 2300c with 8.6, it'll search until it comes to an Alias of a server (Another Mac) and if it's not connected but the computer IS hooked up, it'll ask me to provide my name and password to connect to the computer.

Ok! Can someone tell me how to make a symlink then? I tried searching for files called 'cc" and 'gcc' with Sherlock, but I didn't find any... And oh... Did I mention I'm a *nix newbie? :P

Try using sherlock to search for IRCLE (if you haven't already tried), also if that doesn't work, post a reply with the addr. for IRCLE and I will look at it. --dave
