Perhaps I ran into the same trouble.... The day (more like night) os X was officially released, I got it. I installed it, and the first user I created (in the initial setup program) was named 'root'. BAD BAD BAD BAD IDEA!!!! Everything was a stupid white icon. I couldn't even run Sherlock. The system was totally messed up. I called Apple, and they didn't have a clue (at...

I know what you mean. My company has sun solaris webservers where uptime is routinely >250 days. When we're lucky we reboot about once annually. 7:52pm up 287 day(s), 18:09, 6 users, load average: 0.00, 0.01, 0.05 This is what I'm aiming for w/ Mac OS X. To the OS's credit, it's only gone down when *I* told it to. These were situations where beta software or foibles...

I am getting very frustrated with the privileges (or lack there of) in OS X. My user is the administrator, but for some reason I don't have control of my OS X partition. I can't index it in Sherlock, and when I try to empty the trash (delete the old version of Sharity) it says "Operation could not be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges." I also can't...
