You just can't manually drag your Home folder to backup. SuperDuber will work for you.

Probably need to burn the ISO file from a Mac. From Toast would be ideal. Otherwise, you could pull the HD out of the iMac, hook up the old HD and the new HD via FireWire to a more modern mac, then use a cloning utility to clone the old HD's contents to the new HD. i think he means for something the updates regularly like SuperDuper. Note: If you are coming over to OS X stay FAR away from discontinued products. IMHO all that company's products do nothing but give headaches to OS X users. Look for the alternatives please.
