When you boot off the Tiger disc and choose the Language, go up to the Utility Menu to Disk Utility and use that to reformat the drive as Extended. Then quit Disk Utility and continue with the Tiger installation. SuperDuper is the best way to clone the entire drive to another drive.

I would cd /; tar cf /Volumes/Firewiredrive/backup.tar * -- a good, reliable method. That's what tar was written for, after all. To save space on your remote drive, you can do cd /; tar czf /Volumes/Firewiredrive/backup.tgz * You could also get something like SuperDuper.

I know that Retrospect Express comes with my install disk but I didn't know there were any other drive utilities that came with the disk. I don't want to use Retrospect, I much prefer SuperDuper.
