Backing Up in OSX 10.3.9

Carbon Copy Cloner & SuperDuper Both work very well at keeping backups. And as for what to backup, use either of these programs to back everything up. They'll even make the backup drive bootable incase the unspeakable should happen to your main drive.

Cannot switch hard drives

"Blessed" is a term in BSD (Mac OS X core) of saying the drive will be able to be booted from. Certain Backup programs only archive in their own special backup file. If you want to boot from those drives (must be internal or firewire) you need to have a backup program that will "bless" the drive after backup up. There are two programs IMHO that make the grade to making...

Need Advice on Installing External Hard Drive

01. To format the external hard disk drive, hdd, use 'Disk Utility' (/Applications/Utilities/). 02. To duplicate the iMac's internal hdd's contents to the FireWire hdd, consider 'SuperDuper!' or 'Carbon Copy Cloner'. Both are freeware. --- By the '10 GB' hdd description, it appears you have an iMac (Bondi Blue) through iMac (early 2001). If so, replacing the internal...

When you first plug it in, the drive'll need to be formatted (stick with the default format, extended & journaled) Keep Tiger on the internal drive. If you have an iMac with a 10gb hard drive, chances are it'll be pretty slow no matter what you do, due to its age. If you install...

Transferring data from old, defect iBook to new?

You can't simply drag the data from one drive to another under OSX; certain files are owned by root and you won't have permission to move them. You can do this if you log in as root but even then it will not create a bootable drive as the system folder will need to be "blessed" If your new iMac is an Intel model then it is unlikely you will be able to clone the PPC...

Transferring data from old, defect iBook to new?

I got my new iMac and tried Migration Assistant. I was unable to restart the new iMac. I could log in and shut down. Went to the help line and they tried everything, and the fan started running full blast all the time. I am getting a new iMac today, but I think I will take the time to drag what I want off the old machine using target disk mode. If I use SuperDuper, how big of...

Backup 3

I'd bet that for the purposes of restoring your Mac, you need to use Backup. In the future, however, if you just want to make regular backups, say, to an external Hard Drive, there are tons of other programs out there for you. Carbon Copy Cloner & SuperDuper! are two favorites. Both of these apps will simply copy files to another loaction, thus useable universally. If...
