Adding a Mac to ADS? Reasons?

I will most likely be doing this myself at the schools I work at. Going to create a clone of one of the machines (probably with SuperDuper) and have them joined into the Active Directory tree. I'm going to see about upgrading the Macs to Tiger or Panther at the very least and bumping up the RAM. I'll let you all know how that goes. :D

Red messages on Verifying disc.....

You need to restart from the CD/DVD that came with the system so it's the boot disk and then repair disk on the HD. Alternatively, back up to a Firewire external using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (I user SuperDuper and it works great). Then you can boot from that disk and repair the internal one. If you carry errors to the Firewire drive via the backup you can fix them...

Recommend synchronisation software?

I want to backup my Mac (complete Home folder) to my network hard drive regularly (possibly nightly) but there's a lot of data so don't want to do a full backup each time. So I'd like some software that will only backup new & changed files from my Mac to the network HD. I've had a look around and ChronoSync looks good, but I just wanted other people's opinions as I have no...

Hard Drive whistle...on its way out?

Hi there. Cannot give you an answer re the sounds your drive is making; but it would also make me worry, of course. I definitely recommend to back everything up asap. Carbon Copy Cloner has got a good reputation, but some people do prefer SuperDuper (free version works well, with only a few limitations). One important thing when using either one of those apps: start...

[HOWTO] - Make a Mac OS X Utilities Boot CD

I'm not Bob, but since he never responded to your request, I can tell you how to do it. The Restore tab in Apple's Disk Utility (OS X 10.3 and 10.4, but not 10.2) works almost exactly like Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes an exact bootable clone of your disk. The only options are to erase, or to leave alone the data on the destination disk, and to do a checksum...

Back up advice

You may want to have a look at this e-book: Take Control of Mac OS X Backups ($10) Free sample pages available for download. http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/backup-macosx.html For most oridinary users, I would recommend that you purchase a FireWire drive of a capacity that is greater than your primary hard drive, and then use a good cloning utility to create an exact...
