My cdrom and external dvd not mounting

I use a G4 Mac running the latest OS....two days ago my open/eject button quit opening my internal cd device. When I turn on my external- it is not recognized. I go into Toast and it says there is no device found- cannot call up either of them. Same in iTunes...cannot burn a disc- no burner found. Anyone have any ideas what may be going on?
