Provided you have the hard drive space and the newest super drives from Apple, you use MacTheRipper to rip and remove CSS Encryption, Toast Titanium to make copies, and DVD2OneX for compression if needed. Sure you can. Disk Utility, New Image, CD/DVD Master format. Once the image is created, burn it. Works with both CDs and DVDs (at least the DVDs that aren't copy protected). Toast 7 Titanium will also do it (copy tab). Since I have two superdrives in my Mac, copying just goes from one to the other. More convenient than Disk Utility.

Ah, but you are not looking for Toast. You have the current version now, but Disk Utility (included with OS X) would be on any OS X Mac. Disk Utility is your friend. I believe your problem involves incomplete erasure. Have you tried Disk Utility? You have not answered that question yet. Your Disk Utility with 10.3.9 might not help, but you should make the attempt. The Disk...

ffmpegX. Once you get a VIDEO_TS folder from it, burn it to a DVD in UDF format. Alternatively, you can do the entire conversion and burning process in one easy step with Toast, as long as the Xvid file is compatible with QuickTime. Be sure you have the Divx codec from divx.com installed.
