IChat

Error 21 is saying "not enough bandwidth for video boss". Some people across the net say to run the cron jobs to rotate your logs. So download Onyx or MainMenu or Yasu and run the cron jobs. Another problem might be the Dix or iGlasses Quicktime plugins. Take those plugins out and put them on your desktop. Then test iChat again to see if the same thing happens. Good...

OS 8.6 Find Hard Drive Size?

Sorry, I completely missed the PowerBook reference. Still much the same answer, except that Panther (OS X 10.3.x) is not supported. Maximum is 10.2.8. - and 32MB RAM just isn't enough!, And, the 2GB hard drive isn't a good choice for working with OS X. If you get those upgraded, then Panther _is_ possible through XPostFacto...

Software recommendations

Xee is an image viewer that I always keep because it is very simple and very fast. MouseZoom extends the range of speed and acceleration options for your mouse. I found it indispensible for my Logitech, which was way too slow even on Apple's fastest setting. http://perian.org/ is a good collection of video and ausio codecs for QuickTime. Installing this will get 80% of...

Definitive safe way to optimise my MBP

OnyX works great, though it just runs scripts for features your computer does on its own, just less frequently or at 3am when your computer won't necessarily be turned on. It's perfectly safe. The only thing I find is when I clear caches it runs all my apps as if it was their 'first run'. Only a minor gripe. Otherwise, the easiest thing to do is repair permissions:...

MacBook AirPort wireless flaky with 10.4.10 update?

A possible fixed explained in the MacBook Apple discussions. I hope this helps. According to the things I have read over the internet is this Airport problem only seems to affect the latest MacBooks. Update: I also heard for some that downloading and reinstalling the revised 10.4.10 Update v1.1 has fixed the problem for some.

Software recommendations

There is a thread somewhere on software/freeware recommendations, but I cannot find it. However, here are some more of mine. VisualHub – Great for converting movie or music files to different formats. $24. PandoCalender – Flexible desktop calendar. More accessible than iCal. Freeware. Snapshot – Print utility. Good for printing 6x4 prints. $30.

RE:Disabling certain applications to access the internet

for a backup to and external (or second disk): Super Duper. Bootable DVD is not easy. For the best repair tool (that is bootable) on a Mac IMHO is DiskWarrior. This utility saved my butt more often than I care to count.
