Try Timbuktu... it works on PC's and Mac's and does remote desktop and file transferring. I don't use it, but my friend does and he swears by it. VNC is nice when you are trying to remotely see a UNIX desktop as in FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris... but if you are only interested in Mac to Mac, or PC to mac, give Timbuktu a try...

As far as I know the only options are VNC, or Remote Desktop. Remote desktop only works with other Macs. But before Remote Desktop you had to use VNC!!! What we really need is for Apple to release a remote desktop client for windows... Wonder if we'll ever see that happen? Actually there is also some program called Timbuktu, but I'm not to sure what it does.
