Hi. I had a very similar issue with a "locked" plug-in that wouldn't delete upon emptying trash, both secure and otherwise. I did all the stuff posted here such as repair permissions, etc. I even used (and highly recommend!!) a shareware utility called Cocktail, which goes alot farther than the OS-included Disk Utility for repairing permissions, cleaning caches and logs, but...

First thing to do is run this Trojan Horse removal tool: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696 Next possibility is poor DNS response. Add an OpenDNS server to your Network Prefs TCP/IP setup from here (bottom right of page, 208.xx.xx.xx): http://www.opendns.com/

Does DP 4.5.2 also crash? DP 4.5.1 looks quite old, "This product is designed to run on the following operating systems: Mac OS X 10.3 Mac OS X 10.2 Mac OS X 10.1"

You haven't mentioned which version of Mac OS X (ie: Mac OS version 10.?.?). Internet Connect.app should be in your Applications folder but as you've found not having it doesn't affect your connection but does result in the error message you have been seeing ... try using Spotlight (if you have Mac OS 10.4 or greater) to see if it's been accidentally moved ... Also which versions of those applications are you running? When the version is not supported in the version of OS running, the process may just die so the application exits after a few seconds of bouncing on the dock. Messenger 7.0.1 will not work; Operating System Versions: Mac OS X version 10.4.9 (Tiger) or a later version of Mac OS...

Use the "swiss army knife" of QuickTime plug-ins Perian it it will probably make QuickTime play the file. With the Perian & Flip4Mac plug-ins you will be able to make QuickTime play 99% of audio/video on the net today. If you really want MPlayer you can get it at VersionTracker, MPlayer OSX Extended. It is the only port left being developed on the Mac that I know of.
