I refuse to use Office (although I was forced to install it when my eployer bought it for me. I only use it for reading excel docs) So for typing school papers and stuff I use TextEdit. I think it's great to be able to put some colors and text sizes. If I am editing html then it's bbedit lite and if I'm coding c++ then it's project builder. I like everything to have it's own...

What is the best OS X mail app?

There are a few other, but the list that I have listed, I have tried. Each application have their own advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, Entourage X is the best, but unfortunately, you have to buy MS Office X to use this application. ...

Perl won't work in OSX Server

Just to clarify trevor's statement: You can't edit Perl scripts in TextEdit. You need to use something that will put Unix line endings (I can never remember which is which, so don't ask ;) ). BBEdit will do this (I use Lite, since I'm cheap) and from the Terminal, Pico will do this. Sandpilot: The path in the scripts has to match your Perl installation. Mine is...

TextEdit w/ HTML, weird!

If you don't have the cash for BBEdit, I recommend using mi instead of BBEdit Lite. It's just as free and, in my opinion, better. More powerful at least, and it's got a HTML mode built-in with syntax coloring and a lot more handy stuff. But hardly anyone knows about it. I'm just tryin' to spread the love. -the valrus Now you're the only one here who can tell me if it's...

Mad dock trick!

OK try this: (disclaimer - if you mess things up, don't blame me. always back up any system files you edit. Don't attempt this if you don't know what XML, backing-up and preferences are) Locate your preferences (Home > library > Preferences) folder, and back-up the file 'com.apple.dock.plist'. then open the original file in a text editor (not textedit - that's an Rich...

Software Reviews

mi Probably The Best Free BBEdit Replacement Ever Usability (easiness) **** (4/5) Documentation is sorely lacking. But I figured out how to add a text mode for Csound without it, so it's really pretty intuitive. Other than that, well, it's a text editor. Not terribly complicated stuff, although I haven't used many of the more advanced features. Features ***** (5/5)...
